Langley Air Force Base is home to the 480th Intelligence Surveillance and Reconnaissance Wing which provides intelligence products for combat mission training as well as overseeing operations and geospatial intelligence. Langley Air Force Base was established in 1916 and is located near Hampton, Virginia. The main host unit is the 633rd Air Base Wing serves as support for the Joint Base Langley-Eustis and the realignment efforts at Langley Air Force Base. Child care at Langley Air Force Base is provided by the Russ Child Development Center which offers development programs for children from age 6 weeks to 5 years old. The Family Care Program also provides a home environment for infants through age 12 in small group settings. For further information, call the Child Development Program at #764-2360. The Langley Air Force Base Child Development Centers are accredited by the National Association for the Education of Young Children.
Housing at Langley Air Force Base is handled for both on and off base accommodations through the Housing Management Office who maintains a list of available homes for sale and rent as well as apartment complexes. Housing at Langley is privatized and operated by Barksdale Langley Bolling Family Housing. Due to new construction on post, the waiting list for active duty military and their families varies, so it is best to check in with the housing office upon arrival at Langley. If temporary lodging is needed, new arrivals can contact the Langley Inn who allows up to 30 days until other arrangements open up. The Inn is pet-friendly, and reservations can be made by calling #757-764-INNS. Schools in the Virginia school system sometimes require a waiting list for admission as the Hampton Roads area is considered the military capital of the world, and many schools have a high percentage of military children enrolled. The school district also has information for home schooling if applicable. Private schools are available for a higher tuition and may require prior admission placement tests.
